DUPLEX Stainless Steel is a combination of Austenitic and Ferritic stainless steel hence they are called duplex. This microstructure gives them better strength and ductility. Common uncharacteristic of duplex stainless steel are durable strength, toughness and ductility, corrosion resistance, and stress and and cracking resistance.

AUSTENITIC Stainless Steel ( 10-20% chromium) is the most common grade of stainless steel and has nickel, manganese, and nitrogen. Comes in series 200 (chromium-manganese-nickel alloys) and Series 300 (chromium-nickel alloys like 304, 309, 316, 321, 347, etc.). MARTENSITIC Stainless Steel (11-17%) are high in carbon, hardened tempered chrome alloy. FERRRITIC Stainless Steel ( 12-17% chromium) like Martensitic, but has less chrome and carbon content and magnetic. The most common ferritic grades are the 430 (17% chromium), and the 409 (11% chromium), largely used in the automotive sector. DUPLEX and SUPER DUPLEX Stainless Steel contain Ferritic 50% and 50% Austenitic, hence the the name duplex, and it has better strength than Austenitic and Ferritic steels.
